A Recruit for the Weavers Guild

location: Weaver's Guild
mood: accomplished accomplished

*4th Day*

With my newly acquired flax flowers, I decided to spend the day fine tuning my art of spinning linen thread. It was a lot of hard work and I lost my concentration several times, (Chantie poking me throughout all of it wasn't helping.) It makes me glad though that I can do this through synthesis, doing this the old fashion way would have been nigh impossible, actually I'm not quite sure how you would turn petals into thread without the use of a crystal. This "modern" age, as the guild professionals call it is quite helpful, but not nearly as easy as I would like.

I finally did manage however to turn all those flowers into several stacks of spools of thread, with which, at the guild master's suggestion, I turned into several very sturdy linen clothes. This work turned out to be very profitable in the end, unfortunatly though I'm still running into my old problem of just not enough buyers.

I am, however happy to report that the Guild Master, Ponono, has recognized my talent as an upcoming weaver and promoted my status in the guild to that of a Recruit! *does a little jig*

A Reunion Most Divine.

*3rd Day*

Ah finally, rid of that dreadful-wedful leather armor. Seriously, how anyone can wear that around the warm weather of Sauratabaurta is beyond me. My first journey out was quite successful, I must say. Several stacks of crystals empowered with earth energy, and even a few of fire and wind! Attempting some new synthesis items today was a must, and I made several rather fethching capes from grass clothes. I got a tip from one of the other crafters there, Quiji I believe it was, to make some linen thread next, he said it might be a bit difficult at first but to give it a try anyway. ^^

In order to make the thread, he said I needed to get my hands on a delicate flax flower, that two of those would be just right to make a spool of thread. Well, unfortunatly I had no idea where to acquire these flowers from, but that sneaky kitty Delusion is never out of ideas. She said she would be sure to get some, but it wouldn't be for free, of course, she needed some beehive chips in exchange for her latest alchemy project. She suggested I travel to the canyon and find some... some being 36... as an equivilant exchange for her flowers.

Not expecting the flowers for free, I marched off to the outer reaches of Sauratabaurta and finally to the Tahroghi Canyon.

What a deserted and dusty place. There were sandstorms that would last hours at a time, blinding me and quite stinging. I saw the oddest sight though, it looked like a giant blue rarab with three tails! And it came bounding up to me from out of the dust! Then I heard a quite squeeky voice that sounded like it was saying my name from behind the clouds of sand.

To my surprise! It was the Lady Chantie who'd left for the Near East, apparently she was returning to Windurst from the port of Mhaura, a seaport somewhere past the canyon. She had decided to stop and play with this creature, which she called Carbuncle-uncle. Quite a nice blue thing really.

I explained to her my need of beehive chips and agreed to help collect some. After a few hours we were both quite tired but had managed to scrounge up just enough chips along with several other ingredients, mostly bags of herbs and grains, which Chantie promised to teach me how to plant.

So we journey'd back to Windurst and I happily made the exchange with Delusion... which I found out later was not such a profitable decision as apparently chips are worth much more than flowers at the market, no wonder that mithra was smirking.

Chantie and I did however end up getting our picture taken in Windurst Waters while we were on our way to the Culinary Guild for her, a rather nice shot of us two crazy Tarutarus!

Fisherman's Delight

*2nd Day*

Well, after our brief friendship, it seemed Chantie had to venture off with the others toward the Near East. Something about blue magic, not quite sure what she was rattling on about, but she seemed quite intent on learning about it.

For us to stay in contact, she said, she gave me a shiny black pearl, claiming that if I spoke into it she would hear me, just as if she spoke into it I could hear her. An odd device, I found that their were others that had these pearls too, as a group, they called themselves the The Shadow Angels . Very odd indeed, but a very nice bunch over all, it seems they come from all over the land, travelling for different purposes yet intent on helping one another through it all. I had no idea such groups existed, apparently there are many spread across Vana d'iel, all with their own goals and desires.

Anyway, while traveling through Sarautabarta I came across many rivers, I couldn't help but stop and fish in that clear water. I came out quite a head if I do say so myself, which I doey~woey! About 24 moat carps and several crayfish. I had quite a time hauling so many fish back to Windurst to sell at the market, all of which sold quite well.

I found out that Chantie, could actually use the crayfish to make a delictable dish, so in exchange for the fish I caught she traded me insect paste with which she claimed would catch a lot of carp. She said correctly as I managed to get another 12 carp with her pastey.

After such a long day of fishing I decided to work on my axe skills again, and prehaps gathering more ingredients for my clothcrafting off of various mobs. I'm quite happy to say that I'm now sporting a full set of Leather Armor, much more appropriate than fighting in my town clothes.

I decided not to head back to the saftey of Windurst tonight, since as Delusion pointed out, I'll most likely be spending a lot of time outdoors sleeping on the ground. So I figured it was good to practice while I was still near town, incase, you know something went horribley wrong.

Oh and just so you know, it is NOT a good idea to go toward those camp fires at night, apparently they're made by the Yagudo Beastmen, and they don't like sharey~wareing. Ouch.

The Adventure Begins

Jul. 16th, 2006 | 10:35 pm
location: East Sarautabaruta
mood: accomplished accomplished

*1st Day*

So this is my official first day as an adventurer.

At the suggestion of my mithra boneworker friend, Delusion, I headed off toward Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls to officially sign up to be an adventurer. Because you have to be an adventurer to fight beastmen, they don't just let anyone have a sword you know, well they do, but you have to still have a license. Such paper work involved in it, why exactly do they need to know my mother's maiden name? So what if she goes by Suzy instead of Susan after being married... I didn't think it was such a big deal.

It's kind of funny that they want to know what to put on my tomb stone incase I die, and according to them, and they some how manage to recover my "mutilated" body... ok... so it's not that funny, infact, I'm beginning to wonder if this was such a good idea. I mean so what if I become from poor a lack of materials and can no longer craft and I then have to move into the Hortoro Ruins with the other Tarutaru dead beats.... that look at you funny... ok maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to sign up to be an adventurer.

I recieved my official Adventurer Coupon saying that yes, I am infact allowed to go out and smash things, yay! (I also traded it to some Cardian named Jack for 60 gil. Works for me.) Still, my name's in the big book of "People with Swords" so I'm allowed to travel outside the walls of Windurst and go about my business.

Seeing as I'm a crafter, and now an adventuerer, it didn't seem very apporpriate to try and attack monsters with crystals, so it was time to pick a job.

I spent some time with Delusion trying to figure out what trade I should take up, what I'd be any good at. After ruling out all of the mage jobs... after those "incidents" in school it didn't seem like a good idea, so that left me with the arts of the Thief, Warrior, and Monk. The idea of hand to hand combat didn't sound so good, I don't particularly want to go toe-to-toe with a Goblin Smithy or anything. Thief sounded like a good choice but I didn't think I'd be agile enough to do it, (especially since Delusion stold my gil pouch when I was considering it). So that left me with Warrior, get to wield an axe, a big SHINY axe, sounds like a good idea.

So I took a deep breath, allowed one of the War Warlocks to cast Signet on me, and away I stepped into the lush green area of East Sarautabaruta. This isn't so bad I thought to myself, closed my eyes and thought, "C'mon you can do this." Only to open them and see a little Tarutaru screaming "GOBLINS TO ZONE" running right toward me. And behind her came two Goblin Weavers and a Goblin Thug. Being the brave warrior Tarutaru I was now, I ran inside screaming like a little girl.

I was soon followed by the actual little girl Tarutaru, who came into the walls panting. She introduced herself as Chantie, she had just started practicing the art of Summoner, and apparently she'd lost her concentration midway of calling the mystical avatar Shiva and had left herself defenseless for the trio of goblins.

Apparently, she is first and foremost a Red Mage of Windurst, but had decided to try the forbidden magic of Summoning. After talking to her, I don't quite understand why Summoning is considered so bad by the Windurst schools of magic... who knows...

Chantie decided to stick around while I tried to learn how to swing my axe. I had decided to go with a one handed axe and a shield since I wasn't quite strong enough to lift a two-handed one without falling over.

So with her keeping an eye on me as I viciously assaulted bumble bees, tiny mandrogra, and even a severe blood thirsty rabbit, I began to get the hang of this axe wielding thing. She did allow me to get beat up by one of those wandering Yagudo though, claiming it built character... (though I think her falling asleep had something to do with it...)

I was having such good luck, and knowing that Chantie was watching me from under a tree, (read: She feel asleep with her sunglasses on) I decided to take on Crawler. I heard that you could obtain silk thread from them, perfect for making silk clothes with. So I snuck up toward it, screamed at the top of my lungs that it's mother looked like an Orc and swung my axe into it's insecty hide.

Only to realize that it's hide was similar to leather and not the least bit smushy as I'd hoped. I continued swinging though, barely scratching it, thinking that Chantie would jump in at any time and save me, (had I realized she was blowing sleep bubbles with her nose I wouldn't have been so confident... i.e. stupid). Then a werid surge of power came over me and I felt my swings impacting stronger, actually slicing through the leather skin into the green sticky goodness. Finally the crawler gave way and I managed to recover a beautiful spool of silk thread. (Mighty Strikes yo!)

Chantie soon woke up from her "meditation" (I think my axe chopping off the top of her feather had something to do with it...) to help heal my scratches (and then inflict new ones for accidentally chopping off the top of her feather...). It's the beginning of a beautiful friendship... oh wait.. that's only in the movies.

Well anyway, I survived my first day of adventuring and had several crystals empowered with earth energy to show for it. Not to mention this odd Tarutaru that seems to have very severe mood swings (especially when it comes to her hats).

Introduction

Jul. 15th, 2006 | 11:53 pm
location: Windurst Woods
mood: nervous nervous

I found this journal in my closet~waset, so I figured~wigured that I'd record my new adventure~wenture's in it.

For the sake of any future~wuture reader~weaders though, that aren't Tarutaru, I'll keep my taru~waru talky~walky down to a bare minimum.

I guess I should say a little about me? Yes, that seems like a good idea!

I was born and raised in Windurst, as most Tarutaru are. After the Great War my ancestors fled with the other Tarutaru to the land we now know as Windurst built around the Great Star Tree.

Though Windurst is full of bursting mages, I never quite acquired a handle on magic. The majority of time that I spent practicing it in class, I ended up catching things on fire (that were definitally not suppose to be on fire, like the teacher's robe) or in detention for doing such stunts accidentally.

I often spent my time in Windurst Woods, when I was younger, learning trades from the Mithra and listening to their stories of their far off homeland. It's also the place many adventurers came to for trading goods that they brought with them. Though I always found their stories entertaining and exciting, I never thought of adventuring myself. I was perfectly happy with just the small seaport town of Windurst. I often spent my days in the Weaver's Guild, practicing making fine cloths for adventurer's to buy. A tradesman seemed to be my mark more than actually going out on my own and joining in the battles against the beastmen (not to mention that the very thought of it was terrifying).

So I traded, crafted, and fished throughout the days, making a small profit off my hard labor. But I was happy with the work. Then news traveled to our town, a way to the Near East had recently opened. Adventurers from all three nations, the Kingdom of San d' Orian, the Republic of Bastok, and even our nation, the Federation of Windurst sent out their best , brightest, and strongest to conquer the far off lands, and gain territoral standing.

I watched as one by one the adventurers took ships toward the uncharted lands. Soon those I had previously traded and bargained with never returned, some were thought to have lost their lives on the voyage, others set up shop in the new lands with premission from the Empress her self.

With less adventurers visting Windurst, I was left with a much less supply of the items I required to make my clothing and fabrics, and much higher prices for those items while I recieved less people to buy from me. My once small profitibale work, now became almost unprofitable.

There was only one thing to do, I had to leave the safe walls of Windurst and venture out to obtain the items I needed myself. (As soon as I'm done cowering in terror at the thought of walking outside, I'll be on my way... really...)
